Practitioners of Wicca all over the world have many things in common. As a religion that celebrates life with rituals combining spirituality, music, dance, food and love, Wicca is becoming more and more popular all around the globe.

Modern Wicca is believed to follow the Celtic customs combining English and Welsh traditions. The Druids were people who arrived from unknown destinations and are believed to be the "teachers" of the Wiccan traditions. Although Wicca originated in Europe, it has been accepted and embraced internationally and evolved over the years in many countries, absorbing new traditions and rejecting some of its conventional views as it reaches for a larger and more widespread following. As people moved from one land to another, some branches of Wicca accepted more of the local traditions or customs.

However, there are also many traditions in Wicca that remain the same over the centuries. The eight Sabbats are observed in most Wiccan traditions. However, they may be celebrated at different times of the year as the seasons differ between the two hemispheres. Worship of the Moon as Goddess is one of the main themes of the Wiccan way of life. Preservation and celebration of nature is another practice that is prevalent in most Wiccan variations.

The elements, planets and other celestial bodies are also held in high esteem as they are viewed as the creators and guardians of the Universe. As Wicca spread around the world, a few of the groups alienated themselves from the rest of the Wiccan population by narrowing the boundaries of their practice. Dianic Wicca, which followed a tradition that originated in Italy, has evolved in America to become a formal feminine Goddess based tradition.

Circle Wicca was founded by Americans Selena Fox and Jim Alan in 1974. The practitioners live in a two hundred acre Nature preserve in Wisconsin. The main difference of Circle Wicca from European style Wicca is that it has absorbed Shamanism and the Native American ways of healing and celebrations. Faery Wicca is of Irish origin with some links to Druidism.

This may not be widely practiced in the Americas. However, African Wicca and its offshoots such as Voodoo were brought over to the Americas and have evolved to be part of witchcraft traditions in the southern parts of the United States including New Orleans in Louisiana. American Wiccan traditions have roots in Gardnerian, Celtic and Alexandrian Wicca.

European Wicca follows the original and strict lead of Gardner whereas in the new World, Wicca was mostly influenced by Raymond Buckland who, fittingly, is called the Father of American Wicca.

Although Gardnerian Wicca emphasizes the power of the Goddess over that of God, every practitioner, whether woman or man, has specific stages of advancement and have to work with the leaders of the group to reach higher and higher levels. Also, this Wiccan tradition did not allow self-initiation or solitary practices as a rule

star symbol of PaganPagan symbols are actually quite interesting and controversial as well. There is confusion between many people as to what is Pagan and what is Wiccan; however, some are very similar.

There are five basic symbols in Paganism that all Pagans learn.

Earth
Earth is symbolized by a triangle upside down with a horizontal line 1/4 from the base of the triangle. It is also used to represent all things in the physical world.

Air
Air is symbolized by a triangle sitting on its base with a line 1/4 of the way up from the base. It is also used to represent all things in the spiritual world.

Fire
Fire is symbolized by a simple triangle sitting on its base and also represents the power and vision of the divine.

Water
Water is symbolized by a reverse simple triangle. It also represents cleansing.

Spirit
The last elemental symbol is resenting the 5th element.

That is the Element of Spirit. By uniting Fire and Water - the power and vision of the divine while cleansing on oneself first; then you can begin to use and feel the power of the element of the Spirit.

I can see the cycle of life in the seasons not just new life born or death. I can feel that I have a right to ask questions of Deity. I was always told as a Baptist not to say why me Lord. In witchcraft, no one has told me I can't question my circumstance. This religion tells me I can talk things out with Deity and ask for a reversal of fortune. I don't have to just accept what I get as a matter of life course. I have the tools in the science to seek the change to be pro-active. I can in other words, have a little bit of the paradise now.

As a Baptist I feared going to hell for my sins, despite being told God was a forgiving God. I understood that I could be forgiven, but I believed I had to be punished. Do some sort of community service for my sins. In witchcraft, I don't automatically think of punishment when I screw up. I ask for forgiveness, and I don't look for the slap down. I believe my Goddess is an understanding and forgiving Goddess. She knows I'm going screw up. She knows my nature.

I feel free as a Wiccan. I know that the Goddess meant for me to use the tools of my religion to make my life what I want it to be. Those same tools are there to help me accept what I can't change. There is destiny and there is passive acceptance. And those things that are meant to be will happen, but that doesn't mean I have to passive wait for what is meant to be.

Witchcraft View

Saturday, October 18, 2008

There is a light that shines in everyone, and mine was buried amid the constraints of traditional religion until I discovered witchcraft. Becoming a Wiccan wasn't a difficult choice for me despite my years as a Baptist. I found like I was home finally because within witchcraft exists the duality of religion and science. When practiced in unity, the two come together for a seamless religion that brings fulfillment and joy to the practitioner.

As a witch or a wiccan, I follow a path that is built on what seems so natural to me. Harm none. The same as love thy neighbor as they self basically. I worship according to the Wiccan theory of mother-maiden-crone. It is nearly similar to the father-son-and holy spirit theory. The difference? I am not bound other interpretation of what Deity means or what Deity meant. I can see the Goddess as a tree, nurturing and giving or as the howling wind carrying the seeds of flowers for creation of new life.

Our memories, imagination and explorations into the unknown as children are still within us, we have to learn to tap into them and see once again through the eyes of a child. The mystery, the beings and the magic that once came so naturally to us is still alive within us, it is a sleeping giant and to rouse it from it's slumber is to awaken our spirit to a whole new world. A world unhindered by the restraints of time, the programming of society and the fear of the unknown.

When we have the blessing of touching those moments, we have within our grasp one of the greatest gifts we could ever hope to receive. The world opens up, as does our soul and then we realize in the simplicity of the moment that the grand secret of understanding has been right in front of us and within us all along, all we had to do was awaken it.

Magic lives and our inner child can be awakened... Rouse it and you will see the magic that resides in all places and you will know that to understand about the Witch within us, we must watch the children and learn from them.

Some say live in the present but sometimes I think, we must go back before we can go forward. Magic is everywhere all we have to do is open our eyes to see it.

Inner Child

"The most potent muse of all is our own inner child." ~Stephen Nachmanovitch

I have said it many times, that this journey I know as Witchcraft has likely been more of a quest to regain that in which came so naturally as a child. Regaining what often appears to be lost to our childhood is a journey into discovery of such enormous proportions.

Children are such a beautiful gift, they see with unhindered eyes, they feel and express freely without concern for what society deems natural or unnatural. They listen to Fairy tales that take them to far away lands which continue within them long after the story ends. They live freely in their souls and minds, they are alive with a creativity that we as adults long to touch or even remember.

They see what we no longer see because their eyes have not clouded over with age and time. They are indeed beautiful and without ever knowing it or caring to know it they possess naturally and freely what we as Witches must so often learn and fight to regain... Our Inner Child.

Visions of the consequences of the Result are Personal!

Once the consequences are accepted the practitioner performs the procedure in full acceptance of the result. The cost is paid.

The inner self is truly the goddess called, or God, within. Do you honestly believe that YOU are SEPARATE from the Creator? As with many of the old religions there is a constant dialog with the inner god or goddess.

The simplest form of communication is a prayer that consists of a single word. Did not the Master use only one word to create this universe? The Will is then applied to provide the energy to move an event from one plane to the now.

Witch The Result

Saturday, October 04, 2008

The witchcraft uses the practitioner's inner stability and worth to perform the witchcraft the results are more dependent on the practitioner's sense of worth than any other. The ability to reach into the other world (Plans of Existence) is demanded by the most rudimentary procedure.

The practitioner wishes a result to occur in this plan of existence. The spell is known to the practitioner. To make this event occur the practitioner invokes the goddess within. The prayer is to eliminate the base elements of the desire and gives a positive reason for the result.

This prayer MUST be only a few words and have the full force of the inner self in order for the expected result to materialize on this plane.
