tarot adventurePicture yourself as the Fool at the Tarot. In this case a Fool isn't someone stupid or immature; a Fool in the Tarot means innocence. See his happy face, untouched by the disappointments of life and ready to embrace everything that comes his way. Take this part for yourself. Then, as you progress through the cards let the journey become your story.

Write down what is happening as you travel through the Major Arcana. Let your imagination run wild. This could be your own personal story or you might publish it and see it become a best seller. You are limited only by your own imagination.
Spread out the other 56 Tarot cards. As you journey they become your warehouse. This is where you go to get the supplies you need for different stages of your adventure.

Do you need the Wealth of Pentacles, or the passion of cups? Will you meet a king? Do you need weapons or inspiration? Again let your imagination run wild and free.

By the end of your journey and you will be sorry to see it end, you will have an intimate knowledge of the Tarot cards. You will have sympathy and understanding surpassing by far anything a book or tutorial can possibly give you.

tarot art playTarot cards contain, within the symbolism of each card, all of the possible experiences of life. Each card acts like a sentence. Many possible meanings lie in a sentence taken out of context, it's only when we read the whole paragraph that it makes sense. The whole paragraph, in Tarot terms, is the way the cards are arranged during a reading. This is called a spread. For those who feel that trying to learn the various meanings of each card is a daunting task, here is a fun and exciting way to learn the Tarot.

The Tarot deck consists of 56 suit cards; unlike the deck of playing cards that we are familiar with tarot has four court cards to a suit, King, Queen, Knight and page. There are also 22 cards that are not associated with any suit. These are commonly referred to as the Major Arcana. Separate these cards from the deck. You will note that each one is numbered. The first card, numbered zero, is the Fool.

This is where the Tarot begin

Look at the Fool. He seems to be walking to the edge of a cliff. Is he? Or is he walking alongside? Is he walking or dancing? He has a sack on a stick over his shoulder, what is in it? There's a dog in the picture, is the dog playing, attacking, or warning him about the cliff? Think about these questions as you look at the next card number 1, the Magician.

The Magician stands behind a table with items on a cloth. Is the cloth the Fool's sack? Are the items on the table what was in the sack? Has the Fool now become the Magician? This is where the fun begins.

Tarot is inspiring.

Saturday, April 25, 2009

It offers a different perspective on life, what is it we're searching for, which path to take, and always, it reminds us that we are all part of this universe. No matter how tough the battle is, most of the answers lie deep within, if only we stop to listen.

Tarot is more than just a deck of cards. The artwork ranges from fascinating, inspiring, awesome, sublime, to the ludicrous, ridiculous, and even gruesome. This is the true beauty of the tarot - it allows one to express one's fascinations, deep stirrings of one's soul, encourage the psyche, the imagination to explore one's fanaticism, one's fantasies and reveal beliefs, hopes and dreams as well as frustrations and fears.

The Major Arcana of the tarot depict images, characters that convey insights, messages, with a clarity that delve deep into the soul. It reveals the shadows, the secret longings or pain, fears as well as hopes, may even point to possibilities one has never thought of.
As one tarot writer puts it, it shows the keys, choose which door each key fits. As in real life, isn't it a wonder what makes a person tick?

For some people the attraction to the tarot lies in the seductive allure of divining the future. For others it is less complex simply the collecting of beautifully crafted tarot decks. Perhaps most widespread of all is the quest to better understand ourselves. The cards allow a reader a means to self examine that few other avenues offer. By studying a spread of cards and seeing what they may mean, the reader may see an alternative view of his or her life but more importantly they may see an alternative view of themselves. Such self examination is never a bad thing.

In doing a reading one can ask "what is my role in this issue?" or "how can I best resolve xxx?" Such questions are rarely bad questions to ask. The resulting answers give insight which may be far more valuable than mere divination.

By opening the window of our imagination, through the use of images and symbols, we are able to take an alternative view of our present, our past, and also our future. The cards encourage this. It should be no surprise that the psychologist Carl Jung found tarot cards to be a valuable resource. Once we are able to reach into our imagination and unlock some of the subconscious influences we have, the way we perceive our reality can shift radically.

A typical reading may provide such an alternative view. This can happen in much the same way as one might go to a friend and explain a situation, looking for good advice about what to do next. Equally, one can listen to that advice or discard it. Either way, we make our own decisions. We live our own lives. The cards can help us see alternatives and give us new perspectives, but ultimately we are masters of our own destiny.

learn exploration tarotTarot cards offer the reader a chance to glimpse into the future in an unusual personal ritual. However, the stereotype of a gypsy divining the future is not where Tarot begins or ends. It is merely one aspect to a complex and diverse world.

Tarot offers choices upon which decisions can be based. Add to this the application of numerology, astrology, the tree of life for those who study and understand this subject. The possibilities are endless.

Although shrouded in mystery, Tarot is rich in symbolism, geometric patterns, colors, angels, animals, mythological images. The many colorful decks available today are themed with various images, from the classic Rider Waite deck to the colorful oracle type decks such as the Faerie Oracle. The most popular cards share a common theme. They inspire the reader's imagination. This really is where the value of tarot lies.

Most decks echo the rich symbolism of the Rider Waite deck, being variations of that theme. These decks inevitably reflect the values and times which they grew from - a Victorian England. Many images in the Rider Waite deck refer to a medieval European view of the world, as interpreted by the Victorian authors of the deck. Some more modern decks offer themes which may be more relevant to the reader, dependant on their own cultural standpoint.

om gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi soha

When I have encountered Buddhist practitioners reciting this mantra, it has always been recited very fast and as with om ah hung, it is typically undertaken 108 times. This is the mantra that is reputed to have been uttered by the Buddha himself and is recorded in the Heart Sutra. It translates quite beautifully as: gone...gone...gone beyond...gone beyond the beyond...hail to the one who awakens.

om mani padme hum

This is another mantra to be recited quickly with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm. It is the most recited mantra in the world, a favourite in both Hindu and Tibetan traditions. In the Tibetan lineages, it is known as the mantra of Chenrezig, the Buddha of compassion. Its six syllables prevent unfortunate rebirths in the six lower realms or lokas which include the realms of the devas (gods), asuras (titans), humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell. The Tibetan Book of the Dead encourages one to recite this mantra often to prepare oneself for the transition into the state of consciousness known as the bardo of death enabling one to fully embrace the Dharmakaya, the fundamental clear light of emptiness.

om shanti shanti shanti-hee and/or amen amen amen

This is an exquisitely appropriate coupling of two famous mantra to conclude a session of chanting. Shanti is a Sanskrit word for peace and I have often heard Hindu masters and yoga teachers in India conclude their practice with a very conscious recitation of this mantra. It is interesting how the word amen resembles aum could it be that the two stem from the same origin?

omnis jaum intimo

This is an ancient Gnostic mantra to invoke our inner divinity or monad. Even reciting it once invokes powers of unimaginable profundity. Try it yourself. As with any of these mantras, there is no need to understand the etymology of the words, nor is there any need for mental speculation or any intellectual adjustment. Put aside the thinking mind for awhile, and turn on the feeling mind, your heart. Feel this with your heart and not with your head. Try to avoid excessive questioning such as...is this working? How am I doing? What does this mean etc.?

om namah shiva

This mantra has seen a resurgence over the last few decades, particularly within the new age movement. It is a Sanskrit mantra that translates as "blessed be Shiva (or our inner divinity)". As with any mantra, if pronounced with devotion and adoration, wider, more subtle ranges of consciousness reveal themselves.

aloah va daath

This Gnostic mantra is an extremely powerful mantra that works subtly on the causal plane, the plane of the soul, in order to align it with the mechanisms of the physical realm. It awakens the soul to action. I have found it most effective when it is shouted out into the ether as if it was a clarion call for action.

ta ya ta om be kan ze be kan ze ma ha be kan ze rad za sa mud ga te so ha

This is a very powerful Tibetan mantra used in what is known as the Medicine Buddha Empowerment. Try to commit this one to memory so you are not reading it, and when you recite it, visualize a radiant image of Buddha in your mind slightly above your body. Emanating from its third eye is a mindstream of clear white light that enters you through your crown chakra and descends filling all aspects of your being. The light is a profound healing force that is in turn not to be horded but to be distributed among all sentient beings, for the glory and emancipation of all.

sssss mmmmm aahhh ooooo (as in oops) oohhh (as in oat) aaayy (as in ace) eeeee (as in eat)

According to Gnostic tradition, these are the seven sacred vowels that are each tuned to its corresponding chakra. So for instance, sssss relates to the root chakra on up through to eeeee that relates to the crown chakra. As you sound out each one, imagine all the impurities associated with that chakra are cleared out. I could spend page after page discussing chakras, but suffice it to say they do very much exist within us and are vortices of psychic nerve energy used to distribute prana and our lifeforce throughout our physical body.

They are kind of like the glands for our ethereal bodies, our vital bodies as they are known. The idea is to open these chakras through meditation and energy work from the root chakra located at the base of spine, to raise our kundalini energy our creative life force up to our crown chakra, the gateway to the worlds and dimensions beyond.

om ah hung

This is another appropriate mantra to begin any session with. It is a Tibetan vajrayana mantra used to purify mind, speech, and body. As you recite it, visualize the syllable om at your third eye, ah at your throat and hung at your heart. It is recommended to recite it at least 108 times, which is a sacred number in Tibetan lore.

aum

This simple mantra is actually the progenitor for the more commonly recited om. It has its origin in the holy scriptures of India. The Prashna Upanishad
best captures its essence:

AUM has three sounds. Those who meditate on A come back to earth to lead a life full of faith and love. Those who meditate on the first two sounds, A and U, go to the lunar world, full of pleasure from which they come back cloyed to earth again. But those who meditate on A, U and M are led to the sun, where freed from sin, as a snake sheds its skin, they see the supreme Lord, who lives in all.

helion melion tetragrammaton

This Gnostic mantra is perhaps the strongest one I have encountered to dispel any heavy, dark, evil or uncooperative forces that could detract from a meditative practice. Saying it three times and envisioning a counter-clockwise rotation in the mind will wipe out anything sinister or nefarious that is currently standing in your way.

om bhur bhuvas suvar maha

According to Indian scholar Eknath Easwaran, these powerful words constitute the vyahritis, pronounced by every brahmin at the beginning of prayers. It refers to an intention to include earth, sky and heaven - essentially all the divisions of manifested reality. The Taittiriya Upanishad, a Hindu scripture, states:

chanting bhur, you become one with fire
chanting bhuvas, you become one with air
chanting suvar, you become one with the sun
chanting maha, you become one with the Lord

The mantras below, though they emerge from different cultural contexts, all trace their lineage back to that universal language, to the Word that begat the great mystery as St. John spoke of.

I have used these mantras for some years now in varying degrees of consistency and frequency and can personally attest to their efficacy and value. As with any meditative practice, it is a good idea to take a few deep conscious breaths before beginning and to clear the mind as best as one can, to focus properly on the task at hand:

helion melion tetragrammaton
om bhur bhuvas suvar maha
om ah hung
aum
sssss mmmmm aahhh ooooo (as in oops) oohhh (as in oat) aaayy (as in ace) eeeee (as in eat)
omnis jaum intimo
om namah shiva
aloah va daath
ta ya ta om be kan ze be kan ze ma ha be kan ze rad za sa mud ga te so ha
om gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi soha
om mani padme hum
om shanti shanti shanti-hee and/or amen amen amen

It is important, as with a number of meditative disciplines, to keep in mind that the benefit accrued from such a practice is to be shared with everyone, including non-human creatures. So you may wish to include a short petition as an endnote to your practice something like: may any merit attained through this practice be dedicated to the enlightenment of all sentient beings

Taken from: J Ocean Dennie

Mantras such as AUM are primordial sounds that emerge from the Void and the endless expanse of that which lies unmanifested. The opening lines of the Gospel of St. John the Beloved resonate with this truth: "In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

The interesting thing is that the force of the mantra is cumulative which means that the more the mantra is articulated, the more powerful it becomes cosmically and in your personal sphere of life. Mantras are particularly helpful tools in the early stages of awakening to spiritually empower oneself. As life continues within the concentric energies of mantra, the user will be able to discern subtle variations in power and will be able to duly respond.

The mantra's force is multiplied exponentially if it is uttered with complete focus and concentration upon the task in a meditative fashion. Even though, simply uttering the words in an ignorant manner do bring about shifts in consciousness, the results are always limited. When we chant with pure hearts, we manifest the unseen and the unheard (the forces of the universe, cosmic energy, God, good vibes whatever you wish to call It).

Mantra is the manner to directly connect with that power and that fact has been recognized since time immemorial, when words were used not just to convey a particular literary meaning as they do today but to specifically manifest a force of nature, a heightened state of consciousness, a connection with the divine simply uttering the Word would draw this force out into our world.

False teachings will never go away and will not come from outside. It always originated within the church. Many cult leaders were actually genuine Christians in the beginning. Jim Jones and his People Temple that led many to the suicidal tragedy was a conservative Baptist Pastor. Henry Drummond of New Apostolic Church was a devoted Pastor. David Burk, Moon, and many other church Ministers too were all respectful Pastors before turning to be cult leaders.

What had gone wrong? One single, common and major cause is the miss interpretation of the Bible. It is true that God can review Biblical truth to an individual He likes. But more often God does it in the Church, Bible studies, and Seminary where groups of God's people share and learn the Truth together.

No one will deny that God can heal you personally. But more often He will heal you through His chosen Physician. Seeking God's healing and refusing medicine help is the same as reading and interpreting Bible without the Church, Bible studies, and Seminary. You may die physically in the former case and spiritually in the later.

what is mantra

A mantra is a sound vibration. The word "mantra" is an ancient Sanskrit word consisting of two connotations: man (mind) and tra (deliverance). A mantra is essentially a sonic vibration that delivers the mind from its material inclinations and spells of illusion.

Chanting is the process of repeating a mantra.

Chanting mantra does not require any previous qualification, initiation or knowledge to do so. It is actually one of the accessible meditative practices to engage in. Thankfully, it is not necessary to possess a lovely, sonorous singing voice. Therefore, it is not about how good we sound but about the sound vibrations we emanate and the underlying intention we bring to the practice.

I have found that mantra works on a number of levels. On a purely physiological level, the vibrations help to restore harmony to the organism. If you have finished chanting and you do not feel better physically, then there is something wrong with you. It is important to realize that mantras are beyond the ken of the simple arrangement of letters into a word the word itself being but a mere representation of something far more profound.

What is more significant in the cosmic order of things is the power that has been infused into each mantra. Mantras are not communicative in the sense that we have come to understand communication. First and foremost, the vibratory effects of a mantra invoke particular forces that leave a most discernible aftermath upon an environment.

The Theosophical Society has its name from the Greek theo-sophia, literally divine wisdom. Theosophical Society has its root back to the first few centuries Christianity era of Gnosticism. Theosophy speaks in glowing term of Gnosticism which thrived and almost succeeded in doing irreparable damage to early Christian faith.

Transcendental Meditation has been teaching that TM is the core of all religions. Christians should no longer be confused and lost in the Biblical teaching. What Jesus says "the Kingdom of God is in you" or "Who ever sees me has seen the Father too" are meant for meditation.

Unification church or the Moony was established by a Presbyterian believer Sun Myung Moon. In 1945, Moon claimed he received a vision that Jesus paid a respect by bowing and praising him as the greatest teacher in the world. He interpreted the Bible to suit his own wish from the first book to Revelation.

I will not include Seven Days Adventist in the list because they have made some changes and accommodate vital Biblical teachings in to church recently
